geo4bolivia: load, link and build subnational data

The observatory’s Python package. Load every indicator as a tidy panel with boundaries, link your own data to the same units, and build new indicators across municipalities, provinces and departments.

geo4bolivia is the data engine of the observatory. One line loads any dataset as a panel (one row per unit and year) with names and boundaries. Every spatial unit has one geo ID that nests by prefix (municipality BO-04-17-04 lies in province BO-04-17, in department BO-04, in Bolivia BO), so the package can move data up the hierarchy with each variable’s own aggregation rule, interpolate it onto grids or newer municipality maps, and combine datasets. To build your own indicators, it links tables that identify units by name in any spelling or by INE and DS4Bolivia codes (and refuses to guess between municipalities that share a name), summarizes rasters such as Earth Engine exports over units, and saves the result with the same documented format as the published data. It is small, works out of the box in Google Colab, and hands its data in one line to two companion packages: expdpy for panel exploration and econometrics, and geometrics for spatial analysis.
